FREC® First Response Emergency Care (Level 3)

This 5 day Level 3 FREC® First Response Emergency Care course arms learners with the knowledge and confidence to deal with a range of pre-hospital care emergencies, including: managing a casualty’s airway, catastrophic bleeding and dealing with traumatic injuries.

This qualification exceeds the HSE’s standard requirements for those acting as a workplace first aider and is suitable for working environments where the need for a higher level of first aid training has been identified. This could include; construction, manufacturing, laboratories, or environments which are remote or include high risk activities.

The qualification is approved by Qualsafe Awards (the UK’s largest Awarding Organisation for first aid qualifications) and is endorsed by The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh - Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (FPHC). The Level 3 Certificate meets the FPHC criteria for descriptor ‘D’ provider on the PHEM Skills Framework.

  • Responding to life threatening medical conditions
    Adult, Child and Infant Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
    Emergency oxygen administration including use of Bag Valve Mask (BVM)
    Internal and external bleeding
    Airway management including OPA, NPA and suction
    Traumatic injuries and catastrophic bleeding
    Hypovolemic shock and coagulopathy
    Poisoning and intoxicating substances
    Assessment and treatment of burns and scalds
    Circulatory and respiratory systems
    Burns and scalds
    Neck, spine and pelvic immobilisation
