September 2009 - Resuscitation Council (UK) Announce Date for New Guidelines

The Resuscitation Council (UK) have announced the publication date for the next Resuscitation Guidelines - 18th October 2010. ILCOR, the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation will meet early in 2010 to agree a worldwide consensus on resuscitation science which will then form the basis of the new guidelines.

The worldwide experts meet every 5 years to formulate the best way of teaching and performing resuscitation, based the latest scientific evidence available. The present guidelines, published in 2005 were phased in over 3 years as first aiders renewed qualifications. The new guidelines will hopefully be phased in over 1 year as annual refresher training is now recommended by the HSE.

June 2009 - Impending HSE First Aid training changes

On the 1st October 2009 the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will release new guidance on first aid to employers. The updated guidance will see the introduction of a new HSE approved 1 day Emergency First Aid at Work course to replace the current Appointed Persons course and a new 3 day First Aid at Work course.

The qualifications of all First Aiders trained under the current system (before October 2009) will remain valid and can be counted in the new first aid needs assessment.

December 2008 - New Fire Safety Training Courses

A key to our success is the fact that we only use highly experienced trainers such as Paramedics to deliver our First Aid courses. Keeping these principles, we now have a range of fire safety courses that will only be delivered by experienced Fire Fighters. New Fire Safety Regulations place the responsibility of Fire Risk Assessment firmly with the employer, including the provision of fire safety awareness training for staff. A range of training options are available through large area of the UK - Please ask for more details.

June 2008 - Early Years First Aid Changes

As part of the new Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) there is a requirement for early year's settings who care for 0 to 5 year olds to have a first aider who has completed a specific course in paediatric first aid (from September 2008).
