October 2009 - HSE Implement New Guidance on First Aid at Work

September 2009 - Resuscitation Council (UK) Announce Date for New Guidelines
The Resuscitation Council (UK) have announced the publication date for the next Resuscitation Guidelines - 18th October 2010. ILCOR, the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation will meet early in 2010 to agree a worldwide consensus on resuscitation science which will then form the basis of the new guidelines.
The worldwide experts meet every 5 years to formulate the best way of teaching and performing resuscitation, based the latest scientific evidence available. The present guidelines, published in 2005 were phased in over 3 years as first aiders renewed qualifications. The new guidelines will hopefully be phased in over 1 year as annual refresher training is now recommended by the HSE.
June 2009 - Impending HSE First Aid training changes
On the 1st October 2009 the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will release new guidance on first aid to employers. The updated guidance will see the introduction of a new HSE approved 1 day Emergency First Aid at Work course to replace the current Appointed Persons course and a new 3 day First Aid at Work course.
The qualifications of all First Aiders trained under the current system (before October 2009) will remain valid and can be counted in the new first aid needs assessment.

December 2008 - New Fire Safety Training Courses
A key to our success is the fact that we only use highly experienced trainers such as Paramedics to deliver our First Aid courses. Keeping these principles, we now have a range of fire safety courses that will only be delivered by experienced Fire Fighters. New Fire Safety Regulations place the responsibility of Fire Risk Assessment firmly with the employer, including the provision of fire safety awareness training for staff. June 2008 - Early Years First Aid Changes As part of the new Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) there is a requirement for early year's settings who care for 0 to 5 year olds to have a first aider who has completed a specific course in paediatric first aid (from September 2008). January 2007- Free Plastic Card certificates
From the start of 2007 all delegates successfully completing any of our first aid courses will now receive a high quality credit card style certificate with first aid guidance printed on the rear. The new credit card certificate will be sent in addition to our standard A4 certificate
and will replace the small laminated card we
previously
issue after some courses.
October 2006 - New Industry Body for Paediatric First Aid
First On Scene's Training Director, Nigel Barraclough has been actively involved in the formation of a new industry body formed to approve and regulate paediatric first aid courses.

June 2006 - First Aid at Work requalification
The HSE have announced a change to the First Aid at Work requalification process, with regards to the time period that delegates are allowed to attend this course. As was previously the case, requalification should still be taken up to 3 months before the delegates current FAW certificate expires. In addition to this the HSE will now allow a dispensation of 28 days if for any reason someone could not attend a course before their certificate expired. April 2006 - New Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Sign
The Resuscitation Council (UK) has
recommended
that a standard sign should be used to indicate the location of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), especially in public places.

November 2005 - New First Aid Guidelines
New guidelines have been issued by the Resuscitation Council UK that includes updated protocols for CPR and chocking. First on Scene will be introducing these changes into all our courses at the start of 2006 including updated course materials.

October 2005 - HSE Training Changes
The HSE has released a position statement regarding the future of First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid courses. These recommendations are still being discussed and are unlikely to be introduced until 2008 at the earliest.
