First Aid Needs Assessment

It is a legal requirement for employers to undertake a first aid needs assessment.
The Approved Code of Practice, the law behind the first aid at work regulations says "An employer should make an assessment of first aid needs appropriate to the circumstances of each workplace".

HSE First Aid at Work Changes

On the 1st Oct 2009 new First Aid at Work guidance was issued by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), introducing the following changes:

  • How you should carry out a First Aid Needs Assessment.
  • New HSE approved first aid courses and two types of First Aider.
  • The introduction of annual refresher training.
