First Aid Instructor and Assessor Training (Fast Track Course) – 3 Days

First Aid Instructor and Assessor Training Course with PTLLS

This course is specifically designed for experienced teachers and trainers who want to become a qualified First Aid Instructor and Assessor. The course is ideal for those who already hold a recognised teaching qualification and wish to gain skills and knowledge specific to first aid training.

Course accreditation

The First Aid Instructor/Assessor Certificate
Accredited by First on Scene (HSE approval 01/01)

Qualifications needed to start

Potential first aid instructors taking this ‘fast track’ course should already have experience in teaching. This should be demonstrated by holding a nationally recognised teaching qualification (such as CIEH professional trainer, City and Guilds 7303, Certificate in Education, PGCE, etc.) or through an acceptable portfolio of teaching experience. A current First Aid at Work Certificate is also required unless the course delegate is a HCP registered paramedic, nurse or doctor. If it has been some time since taking the First Aid at Work Certificate, we advised delegates to refresh their first aid skills prior to attending this course as a thorough understanding of current first aid procedures is required (to the level of First Aid at Work).

Overview

Our 3 day ‘Fast Track’ First Aid Instructor/Assessor course combines theoretical first aid knowledge and practical teaching sessions, which help to develop the delegates’ ability and confidence. The course helps students understand how teaching methods affect learning and builds on their current experience.

During the course, students will be expected to deliver a number of micro teaching sessions. The subjects of the teaching sessions will be agreed at the start of the course, to allow a sufficient amount of preparation time.

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the role of being a first aid instructor.
  • Demonstrate effective delivery of first aid training.
  • Demonstrate an acceptable level of subject knowledge in first aid.
  • Understand rules and regulations effecting first aid training.
  • Competently assess first aid skills in others.

Assessment and Certification

The course consists of 18 hours contact teaching time, with an additional 6 hours of self-directed study. A portfolio of work and evidence of practical first aid teaching skills will be assessed on completion. If the required standard is achieved, a First Aid Instructor/Assessor certificate will be awarded.
